TONIGHT at the Double Door

Hi folks – AHHH! ANXIETY ATTACK! We are playing this evening at the Double Door with friends the Heavenly States and Statutes of Liberty.

Show starts at 8p sharp. AHHHH!!!!!!

Hi, we haven’t played in four years. This has somewhat become the “best of and so long for perhaps FOREVA!!!” show – argh argh argh argh PRESSURE!!

Anyway – it’ll be an interesting show. We would love to see old and new friends. xox.

The Promise now available on Quote Unquote Records

Hey guys,
You can now download the songs off The Promise and view the accompanying videos on Quote Unquote Records.

Jeff is the first person I ever knew to be ballsy enough to a) break up his already very successful ska punk band because it was getting annoying; and b) start over (and become uber successful again) using a totally new music business model based only on donations.  I met him on tour in Cleveland several years ago when he had just started this second band (called Bomb the Music Industry!), and he and his hoodrat friends didn’t have a place to play in Chicago the next day.

So I let him play in the basement of my house.  He spray painted a cassette tape on one of the walls.  Then he wrote a song about it that inevitably put the name of my band somewhere on the map of smelly heavily tattooed teenager boys.

Anyway, so please support Jeff.  He’s a terrible business person, but pretty much one of three true blue punk rockers I know.  And I’m old and cranky!

Okay, date set. Finally.

We’ve set the date of our release party for August 26th as the date of our release party.  We’ve chosen a community center and a great location (I just dropped off the deposit check yesterday), and it’s going to be a benefit show for the Plea for Peace Foundation.  The money raised will specifically go towards seed funding for street art projects with youth that promote social change.

More details to follow.  I’m going to the Smoking Popes release party tomorrow night.  Hope to see ya there!

Well in the meantime…

Hey guys,

So the new Smoking Popes record will finally hit the streets on March 15 and I wrote and shredded some cello on it.  There’s a very long, funny and effed up story behind what transpired that evening in the studio and afterwards (basically it ends with me trying to punch Josh in the butt), but the bottom line is that I’ve heard a lot of the record and it rules.  You guys are going to love it.  Just visit: for more details. I don’t know how long it’s been since the Popes came out with a record of brand new material, so I think it’s a big deal.  Big ups to them! xo jc

Yes we are working

We just finished our five songs; we have to polish up two more for the entire release… which will be in the form of a very limited DVD pressing.  The release show will be on a rooftop in Chicago, god willing.  We’ve finished 1.5 videos…one of which features five sad dogs…and of which two I would argue are rather famous.  The lead singer of the band Wire is a huge fan of one (because the dog belongs to a very famous music critic).

What else is new?  David got an awesome espresso maker for Christmas, and he’s all about making killer espressos these days.  Philip is busy making videos of his friend Hector…and the dogs.  I just made a second appearance on the public television show, “Check, Please!” as an All-Star.  Barack Obama couldn’t make it back, so I had to take his place.  I forgot I said something about unicorns, but apparently it made the episode.  I remember saying something about sneezing pandas, but not the unicorns.  Anyway, enjoy.  More soon. xo, jc

So I had this other website set up and it crashed.  Argh!  And I didn’t do a backup so I have to start over.

I’ll be posting updates on the to-be-titled work we hope to debut this summer.  Coming soon to a rooftop near you.
